Это здание в классическом стиле с четырёхколонным портиком сменило много владельцев, частных лиц и казённных учреждений( в частности, здесь несколько лет с 1823г. размещалось Училище торгового мореплавания), прежде чем перейти в руки казанского купца Ивана Ивановича Алафузова. В Петербурге он занимался торговлей, в его доме разместилось правление общества алафузовских заводов и фабрик. Но производство он имел в Казани и недалеко от неё. У него был кожевенный завод и прядильно-ткацкая фабрика. Потом его вдова, Лидия Андреевна, стала председателем правления общества и владелицей дома. Сейчас в доме располагается отель. Красивое здание с изящной лепниной и белыми колоннами не пострадало во время сильного пожара в феврале 1917 года, в котором пострадал его сосед слева - полицейский архив, а здание справа, тоже принадлежавшее полицейскому ведомству, сгорело дотла. На его месте только в середине 90х годов прошлого века был построен жилой дом.
