Центральная башня южной стены Кремля. Построен в 1485 году Антоном Фрязиным на месте старых белокаменных Чушковых ворот Кремля эпохи Дмитрия Донского. В конце XV века, после его постройки, в Кремле началось строительство новых укреплений. Тайницкая была важнейшей башней, защищавшей речную сторону Кремля. The Tainitskaya Tower was dismantled in 1770-1771, when the construction of the Grand Kremlin Palace was underway, and restored without the side-strelnitsa in 1783. In 1812, it was damaged by a powerful blast and later reconstructed. Тайницкая башня — центральная башня южной стены Московского Кремля. Почему же её назвали «Тайницкой»? Первой в 1485 году Антон Фрязин заложил стрельницу на месте Чешковых ворот белокаменной крепости 1366—1368 годов, предусмотрев внутри на случай осады колодец-тайник и скрытый выход к Москва-реке, в связи с чем башню прозвали Тайницкой. В 1680-е годы она была надстроена, а в 1771-м разобрана. В нынешнем виде башню восстановили в 1783 году с приблизительным сохранением старых форм. До сноса отводной стрельницы в 1933 году башня была проездной. Тайницкая башня долгое время считалась первым кирпичным оборонительным сооружением в истории Москвы. Башня играла важную роль в обороне Кремля со стороны реки. Она имела проездные ворота и отводную стрельницу, с которой соединялась высокими арочными переходами (выход на них был в верхнем ярусе башни).
