Св. Константино-Еленинская башня (бывшая Тимофеевская) была возведена в 1490 году Пьетро Антонио Солари на месте белокаменных Тимофеевских ворот Кремля (1366-1368). Он был назван в честь св. Церковь Константина и Елены, стоявшая неподалеку в Кремле. Первоначально это была проходная башня, защищавшая древние дороги, соединявшие Кремль с Большим Посадом (Китай-городом) — подходы от ближайшей пристани Москвы-реки — Великой и Варской улиц. Башня имела мощную боковую стрельницу, соединенную с ее корпусом подъемным мостом через глубокий ров. В 1670-1680 годах башню надстроили четырехгранным каменным шатром. В 1707 году по приказу Петра Великого бойницы были расширены, чтобы внутри можно было установить пушки. В начале XIX века разводной мост и боковая стрельница были разобраны, ворота засыпаны. Его высота составляет 36,8 метра. The Sts. Constantine and Helen Tower (former Timofeyevskaya) was erected in 1490 by Pietro Antonio Solari in the place of the white-stone Kremlin Timofeyevskiye Gate (1366-1368). It was named after the Sts. The tower had a mighty side-strelnitsa connected with its body by a drawbridge across the deep moat. In 1670-1680, the tower was overbuilt with a four-faceted stone marquee. In 1707, on the order of Peter the Great, the loopholes were widened, so that cannons could have been installed inside. In the early XIXth century, the drawbridge and the side-strelnitsa were dismantled, the gate was filled. Its height is 36,8 meters.
