Русский православный храм, посвященный папе католику святому Клименту I. Его пятиглавое и двухэтажное здание, являющееся образцом архитектуры московского барокко, датируется второй половиной XVIII века, между 1762 и 1764 годами, хотя имя архитектора, построившего его, неизвестно. В 1934 году его религиозное использование было прекращено, и оно не было восстановлено до 2008 года, когда здание было возвращено Русской Православной Церкви, снова освятившей его для совершения обряда. Templo ortodoxo ruso bajo la advocación del Papa católico San Clemente I. Con cinco cúpulas y dos pisos, su construcción, ejemplo de arquitectura barroca moscovita, data de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII, entre 1762 y 1764, aunque se desconoce el nombre del arquitecto que la construyó. En 1934 fue abandonado su uso religioso, el cual no se recuperó hasta 2008 cuando el edificio fue retornado a la iglesia ortodoxa Rusa consagrándolo nuevamente para el rito.

Святитель Климент очень почитается в православном храме, что отражается и в прекрасно отреставрированном веществе и убранстве этого храма. St.Clemens wird in der orthodoxen Kirche sehr verehrt, was seinen Niederschlag auch in dem wunderbar restaurierten Substanzzustand und der Ausstattung dieses Gotteshauses findet.

Храм св. Климента Папы Римского – яркий образец барокко средины XVIII века – находится в Замоскворечье (ул. Пятницкая, 26, стр.1). Может показаться удивительным, что такое роскошное, величественное здание построили в тогда еще мало престижном районе, где предпочитало селиться купечество. Такой храм, скорее, мог появиться на одной из улиц Петербурга. Есть легенда, будто бы заказчиком был канцлер Алексей Бестужев – Рюмин. Якобы он задумал построить церковь, чтобы польстить Елизавете Петровне – иператрица захватила власть как раз в день памяти Климента Папы Римского. А раз заказчиком был канцлер, то автором проекта – главный архитектор Петербурга Пьетро Трезини. Более правдоподобная версия о купце Кузьме Матвееве. На его средства храм построил архитектор Алексей Евлашев в 1769 году. Денег для этого благого дела у купца было предостаточно. Матвееву принадлежало несколько заводов в Москве и на Урале. Он же продавал весь табак в городе, так как имел табачный откуп. Как раз напротив церкви стоит дом Матвеева (Пятницкая, 31/2), из которого он мог любоваться на самый красивый восточный фасад.
