good location-price-quality combination OK, hotels in St Pete are generally overpriced: it is after all a country with average wages of €250 per month, so charging hundreds of euros per night is not reasonable. But the city has very few hotels in the first place (and the government doesn't make it easy for new hotels to appear) so the hotel scene is mostly controlled by few €200+ 4-5 star luxurious hotels in what otherwise is a cheap place. On this background, Oktryabrskaya makes a very good alternative. Priced at under €100, located perfectly on Nevsky, within walking distance to major sites, having 2 metro lines accessible within 100m from the hotel and one of the main train stations (Moskovsky) next door, it offers at least a good location at a reasonable price. As for the quality, I've seen the hotel develop over recent years: they managed to get rid (mostly) of the Soviet-style feel, the hotel is now pleasant, impeccably clean, service people are courteous, and the food at breakfast is decent. I stayed there in December 2004 and paid €89 per night per single room. The rooms on the courtyard side don't offer much of the view (well, in St Pete you go for views elsewhere) and are much smaller than those on the street side, BUT they are quiet -- those on the street side face a busy street 24 hours a day with trams, trucks, cars, etc. Breakfast was buffet-style, including a large variety of both hot and cold foods, which was all rather reasonable (though not exceptionally fantastic). The biggest problem (and, huh, some may think it is rather big -- then again some might find it an advantage) I found is the night life at the hotel. Apparently, the 2nd floor bar as well as the one in the lobby also serve as a place to pick a prostitute. This is not pleasant (and prostitution is illegal in Russia, so know what you’re doing). But the whole thing is rather low-key: the few girls you see hanging out there are dressed more-or-less normally (well, a bit flashy, as if they are going to go out clubbing, but not like prostitutes) and do not approach anyone themselves. So you can walk past by or have your drink in the same bar without being bothered by this – but it still give you a cheesy feeling.

Отличное расположение! Этот отель был в фантастическом месте наверху Nevsky Prospekt и в минутах ходьбы от всего действия. Номер был огромен, немного устаревшая обстановка, но ничто оскорбительное. Вода для душа/ванны была немного коричневой, но вы получаете это на всем протяжении России

В первый раз была в сентябре 2021- брала самый недорогой номер через букинг- номер очень понравился- высокие потолки, большая комната, вид на Лиговский проспект, большая ванная комната. Во второй раз была в феврале 2022- так же брониовала самый недорогой номер, только уже через Яндекс. Путешествия. Но этот номер был хуже- намного меньше комната, ванная комната, вид во двор. Гостиница чистая, приятная, вкусные завтраки, вежливый персонал. Планирую останавливаться в ней и в дальнейшем, только разрешу вопрос с разницей в номерах
