Замечательный храм. Необычный, располагающий к себе батюшка - отец Сергий Махонин. Первоначально на месте храма находился Никольский монастырь. Впервые храм упоминается в Духовной грамоте Ивана Калиты, перед его поездкой в Орду в 1339 году. В 1709 году в честь победы в битве под Полтавой на месте деревянного Никольского храма возведена каменная церковь Сошествия Духа Святаго на апостолов. Его архитектура близка к западноевропейскому барокко. В 1799-1800 годах закончено оформление нижнего храма в честь святителя Николая. В 1858-1864 годах по проекту архитектора П.П. Зыкова на средства графа И.П. Мусина-Пушкина закончено строительство новой каменной колокольни в честь святой мученицы Иулиании Никомидийской. Во время наполеоновского нашествия в храме стояла конница Мюрата, поэтому в декабре 1813 года храм был освящён повторно. Службы в храме перестали совершаться с 1926 года. В 1930 году настоятель храма священник Александр Воздвиженский был осуждён на 5 лет лагерей. В 1932 году церковь была закрыта. Храмовое здание эксплуатировалось как котельная, столовая, овощехранилище, водонапорная башня, клуб, библиотека, танцплощадка. Храм был возвращен РПЦ в 1991 году. В 1992 году настоятелем назначен иерей Сергий Махонин. Первая после возвращения Литургия была совершена в 1993 году. К 1997 году была установлена медная кровля, воздвигнут крест. В 2000-е годы были воссозданы три иконостаса. Роспись храма завершена в 2010 году.
